What are the common corrosion protection measures for high-strength bolts and nuts?

In terms of screw corrosion protection, we have determined different specific measures through continuous analysis and testing, in order to choose the most suitable ones according to different types of application scenarios and main purposes. Commonly used measures include changes in the metal's internal structure.

For example, 304 and 316 stainless steel bolts improve their corrosion resistance by such means. Stainless steel screws and nuts can be used for a long time even in damp environments, as long as they are not impacted and the external threading is not damaged, making them highly popular. Another measure is various surface treatment technologies, such as oxidation blackening, metal coating, and dacromet, which are crucial for carbon steel hexagon bolts. However, their corrosion resistance capabilities vary.

Some screws, such as those with oxidation blackening, have lower prices but are more prone to corrosion and rust. However, they are less likely to crack and are generally used for high-strength bolts. Some screws can be colored blue, multicolored, black, etc., with a pleasing appearance and good corrosion resistance capabilities. This type is called galvanized. Compared to dacromet, the color is monotonous, so it is more commonly used for anchor bolts. Each specific measure has its own advantages and disadvantages. During use, it is important to inquire about the processing technology employed by the bolt manufacturer and select accordingly based on application fields.
